European leaders meet in London to discuss strategies to end Ukraine war, vowing to coordinate efforts to pressure Russia amid ongoing conflict.
Following US President Donald Trump's announcement of a fresh round of sanctions aimed at Moscow's two largest oil producers, Rosneft and Lukoil, the leaders urged other nations to impose penalties on Russian oil firms.
As Russian jets continue to invade Europe and deadly strikes destroy Ukraine's infrastructure, Europe is under increasing pressure to end the long-running conflict.
Ukrainian security is connected to that of many other nations, including the United Kingdom, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stressed.
“Ukraine’s future is our future. What happens in the weeks and months ahead is pivotal for the security of the United Kingdom and all our allies across NATO and beyond,”
Starmer said.
According to Starmer on Friday, the UK "became the first country to sanction all of Russia's oil majors" last week, including the same businesses that the US had sanctioned.
In addition to having an effect on the Russian economy, Starmer claimed that the "combined impact" of the US, UK, and EU sanctions shows that nations are "all coordinating clearly in our efforts to support Ukraine and effectively doing so."
In order "to go further, to reduce their dependencies and incentivize third countries to stop buying these tainted resources," the prime minister called on more nations to impose sanctions on Russian oil corporations.
What military aid pledges were made at the London meeting?
At the London meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in March 2025, European leaders, Canada, and Turkey pledged to continue and increase military support for Ukraine. British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer blazoned substantial support packages, including billions of pounds to help Ukraine land advanced munitions systems.
Backing of £2 billion (roughly$ 2.8 billion) aimed at enabling Ukraine to pierce import finance to buy dumdums and other military equipment, including fighter spurts like the French Mirage. Commitment to maintaining a steady inflow of munitions, security, and training to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
Readiness to emplace or contribute to a transnational peacekeeping force formerly a comprehensive ceasefire or peace deal is reached, icing Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.
