France’s three-time presidential candidate Marine Le Pen
will attend the funeral of 1950s and 1960s film icon Brigitte Bardot next week,
her team said.
According to a source in his office, President Emmanuel
Macron, who praised Bardot as a" legend" on Sunday, would not be
present for her burial.
Bardot, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 91, was
blamed in her final days for her support of the far right andanti-immigration
beliefs.
She was set up guilty with hate speech on multiple
occasions, especially against Muslims.
When Le Pen stood for chairman in 2012 and 2017, the beast
weal activist supported her, calling her a contemporary" Joan of Arc"
who could save the nation.
According to the source in Macron's office, the
administration has invited Bardot's family to host a public homage for her, but
they've not replied.
Analogous to the 2018 farewell for French gemstone star
Johnny Hallyday, Conservative MP Eric Ciotti has asked for a civil farewell to
the golden New Wave film idol.
Still, the offer is opposed by numerous on the left
wing.
Olivier Faure, the president of the socialist party, was against it because he said that Bardot
" was several times condemned for racism."
Bardot's animal foundation has stated that a private burial
will take place after her burial on January 7 in a church in her southern
motherland of Saint- Tropez, but it has not specified the position.
In order to prevent
a "crowd of idiots" from tramping on her parents' and grandparents'
tombs, the former actress stated in 2018 that she wanted to be buried in her
garden.
The late far-right politician Jean-Marie Le Pen, whose
daughter Marine later took over his party, was advised by Bardot's fourth
spouse, Bernard d'Ormale.
A conviction for graft may prevent Le Pen from running for
the Elysee a fourth time in 2027.
However, with Macron standing down after two terms in a row,
her National Rally party believes it will have its best chance to win the
presidency in the next elections.
In January, Le Pen's appeal trial in the corruption case
will begin.
What were Bardot convictions for hate speech about?
Brigitte Bardot faced multiple persuasions for inciting
ethnic abomination under French law, primarily due to her public statements
censuring Islam, Muslims, immigration, and related artistic practices. Her 2003
book" A Scream in the Silence" led to a 2004 conviction for
portraying Muslims as" savage raiders" responsible for terrorism and
seeking to dominate or abolish French people; courts fined her €5,000.
In 2008, a letter to also- Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy
complaining about Muslims' ritual bloodbath of lamb without anesthesia calling
them a population" destroying our country and assessing its habits"
resulted in another €15,000 fine as her fifth similar conviction.
Bardot was also condemned for reflections labeling Réunion Island residers as" barbarians," opposing interracial marriage as" gene mixing," and condemning the" Islamization of France" with expressions like" mania for throat- slice," gauging 1997- 2008 with six total rulings.
