Jeremy Corbyn reveals new membership figures for Your Party, highlighting growing public support as the movement gains national political momentum.
The number is far less than the 800,000 persons who showed interest at the time of launch, and it is also far less than the 100,000 to 200,000 insiders who were expected to become official members after the July launch.
It places the Liberal Democrats, whose membership has dropped to 60,000, in close pursuit of the party led by Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana.
The membership update has been interpreted as a signal that the party's aspirations of quickly creating a broad movement have been harmed by the factional infighting between Ms. Sultana and Mr. Corbyn, even though it is still considered respectable by those in the party.
However, as more members switch from the "unauthorised" membership portal that Ms. Sultana opened on September 18, Your Party stated that it anticipates an increase in membership.
Mr Corbyn is expected to announce the 50,000 figure at a rally in Islington on Monday evening.
He said: "I am excited to announce that 50,000 people have now become members of Your Party.
This major milestone reflects what Your Party is all about: a mass, democratic movement for change. From local rallies to mass regional assemblies, people up and down the country are coming together to build this party from the ground up.
This is just the beginning. At the end of this month, we will host our founding conference. This will be the moment that members come together to launch our mass, democratic movement for real change."
In September, Ms. Sultana decided to start her own membership portal, which led to a dispute over ownership of £800,000 in donations that has only recently been settled.
The money was held by a company named MOU Operations, which was run by former South African politician Andrew Feinstein, former Labour MP Beth Winter, and former Labour mayor Jamie Driscoll. All three have now resigned.
Last week, it was made public that Ms. Sultana was now in complete possession of the £800,000 and that she had promised Mr. Corbyn that the funds would be distributed to the entire party.
The Greens, under Zack Polanski, have more than doubled their membership to 150,000, raising suspicions inside Your Party that they have benefited directly from the dispute.
Mr. Polanski called the Greens the "only real opposition left in British politics" after the data were released.
Mr. Polanski stated that he wanted to "replace them" rather than be" disappointed" with Labour, pointing out the peril he also poses to the party, which has fallen 17 points in the pates.
Labour's August periodic accounts show that the party's class has dropped to 333,235 from a peak of 532,046 at the end of 2019, when Mr. Corbyn was still the party's leader.
What are the main policy platforms announced so far?
Diving climate change with strong environmental protections and investment in renewable energy. Expanding public services similar to healthcare, education, and social care, with a focus on reducing inequality.
Adding workers’ rights and support for trade unions. enforcing comprehensive social justice reforms aimed at reducing poverty and empowering marginalized communities. Emphasizing grassroots republic and member involvement in party opinions.
These precedences broadly align with Corbyn’s former platform in the Labour Party but with a renewed emphasis on grassroots participation and erecting a mass popular movement for change. The party positions itself as a volition to both Labour and Conservative parties, seeking significant systemic transformation.
