Sixth form politics students from Skipton Girls’ High School and Ermysted’s Grammar School visited Parliament, hosted by local MP Sir Julian Smith.

Chris Mason, a former Ermysted pupil and BBC Political editor, was one of the people they met during their stint at the Palace of Westminster.

He talked about his recent trip to South Africa with the Prime Minister and offered perceptivity into his media career.

Sir Julian bandied about his liabilities as a member of congress, his background as an administrative seeker, and how he manages his time while serving the Skipton and Ripon constituency during a Q&A session.

Enterprises regarding anti-social behaviour in Skipton, especially around the machine station, were also raised by scholars.

Sir Julian said,

"It was fantastic to meet such engaged and thoughtful students from Skipton Girls’ and Ermysted’s.
Their questions on local issues and national politics were excellent, and it was great to see their enthusiasm for public life.
A big thank you to Chris Mason for joining us and giving the students a unique perspective on political reporting."

How has Sir Julian Smith supported educational outreach for Skipton schools in the past?

Sir Julian Smith has supported educational outreach for Skipton seminaries through hosting Parliament visits, financing periodic Christmas card competitions, and easing meetings with media numbers like the BBC Politics Editor for sixth formers.

Smith runs a monthly Christmas card competition open to original primary and secondary seminaries in Skipton and Ripon, publicizing winners in December similar as the 2025 edition to engage youthful artists and promote creativity while displaying entries in Parliament. This action fosters community ties and recognizes pupil gifts intimately via his website and social media.

Beyond the recent common visit by Skipton Girls’ High School and Ermysted’s Grammar School scholars, Smith has organized analogous passages for politics classes, including relations with intelligencers to bandy current affairs and Westminster processes.
