The White House has admitted that key U.S. economic data may never be released, citing the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on federal operations.
Hamdi praised civil judges for clearing him of what he described as a" muffed" incarceration by" crazies" in the U.S. government two days after publicizing that he was leaving the country willingly.
When Hamdi was arrested, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said that ICE had placed him in immigration proceedings and that the U.S. State Department had cancelled his visa. On October 7, 2023, Homeland Security later indicted him of encouraging assaults on Israel by Hamas.
“I did nothing illegal in the U.S.,"
he said.
“Everything was within the visa. Everything was in the limits of what the visa allowed me to do. The visa was revoked because of my advocacy for Palestine. It was revoked because of advocacy for Gaza.”
Hamdi's detention was a part of the Trump administration's larger efforts to find and perhaps deport thousands of foreigners living in the United States who it claims have either encouraged or taken part in unrest or openly backed demonstrations against Israel's military actions in Gaza.
Civil rights organizations have denounced those enforcement operations as abuses of the constitution's guarantees of free expression, which are applicable to all Americans, not only citizens.
The 35-year-old Hamdi stated that he is debating with his attorneys whether to file a lawsuit against American officials, but he noted that he is hesitant due to "cool heads" in the country. The federal court system and the State Department won out.
“In respect of those cooler minds, I would rather celebrate,”
he said.
“I won this case, the extremists failed to silence my voice, they failed to remove my freedom of speech. America stood with me.”
Hamdi said there are no conditions attached to his voluntary departure and that he's not barred from seeking another U.S. visa in the future.
How can Sami Hamdi pursue legal action against US authorities?
A Writ of Habeas Corpus solicitation challenging the legality of his detention, asserting violations of his indigenous rights similar to due process. Complaints for Declaratory and Injunctive Relief to seek court orders precluding unlawful detention or conduct by immigration officers.
Hamdi's legal platoon, including the Council on American- Islamic Relations( CAIR) and immigration attorneys, filed similar civil desires during his detention, seeking releases, protections against transfers, and access to counsel.
Still, he may file civil rights claims or civil tort claims professing unlawful detention, violation of due process, If Hamdi proceeds with an action now that he's back in the UK. Legal action could also involve seeking damages for detriment caused by the detention and procedural abuses.
