Egypt’s El-Sisi and UAE’s Mohammed bin Zayed met in Cairo Monday, stressing support for President Trump’s Gaza peace plan amid ongoing conflict.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Emirati counterpart, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussed regional issues, including Gaza, according to a statement from the Egyptian administration. According to the statement, both presidents praised Trump's plan to end the Israeli war in the region.

During meetings with Arab and Islamic leaders last Tuesday on the fringes of the UN General Assembly in New York, Trump reportedly announced a 21-point plan.

According to the plan, hostilities must end immediately, and all Israeli prisoners must be freed within 48 hours. Additionally, it specifies the establishment of Palestinian and international administrative organizations to progressively run Gaza, specifically barring Hamas from any participation in politics or security.

As a means of attaining a comprehensive and enduring peace in the area, Sisi and bin Zayed emphasized "the importance of supporting this peace initiative," according to the presidency.

Following Israel's September 9 murder attempt on its delegation in Doha, Hamas declared on Sunday that indirect talks with Israel are still on hold. The group stated that it is still willing to examine "any initiatives positively and responsibly, in a manner that preserves our national rights," but it has not received any fresh offers from mediators.

Early on Monday, Bin Zayed arrived in Cairo for what Cairo referred to as a "fraternal visit." On August 25, he made his final journey to Egypt and met with Sisi in the Mediterranean city of El-Alamein.

Since October 2023, the Israeli army has murdered more than 66,000 Palestinians in Gaza, the majority of whom were women and children. In addition to making the enclave uninhabitable, the constant bombing has caused malnutrition and the spread of illnesses.

What humanitarian measures were agreed for Gaza?

A six-week ceasefire will include an Israeli troop withdrawal and the return of displaced Palestinians, with an exchange of Israeli captives and Hamas captives.

The facilitation of access of up to 600 humanitarian aid trucks per day into Gaza, including temporary housing for 60,000 families and tents for 200,000 families.

The opening and expansion of crossing points for the purpose of enabling both safe and unimpeded humanitarian access, including crossings from Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and areas of the West Bank.

The removal of Israeli checkpoints on major roads allowing uninterrupted passage for civilians within Gaza. The approval and facilitation of materials for repair of critical infrastructure, including water and sanitation networks, hospitals, generators, solar panels, and so on.
