Summary

  • Argentine President Milei launches a $1 million initiative.
  • Aims to improve Israel ties with Latin America.
  • Funded by Genesis Prize money from Jerusalem.
  • Modeled after 2020 Abraham Accords framework.
  • Plans expansion to Brazil, Colombia, Chile, El Salvador.

According to the Genesis Prize announcement on Tuesday, the Isaac Accords would strengthen ties between Israel, Uruguay, Panama, and Costa Rica. They were made possible by funds from the Genesis Prize that Milei won in Jerusalem two months ago.

Argentina already enjoys strong relations with Israel under Milei. His stance contrasts with that of the majority of Latin America, where other nations have recalled their ambassadors and Bolivia and Colombia have cut diplomatic ties with Israel.

The Abraham Accords, which established bilateral ties between Israel and a number of Arab nations beginning in 2020, during the first administration of U.S. President DonaldTrump, are referenced in the new initiative's name.

The American Friends of the Isaac Accords, the organization's organizers, say they intend to take the Isaac Accords to Brazil, Colombia, and El Salvador in 2026.

Milei received the Genesis Prize in Jerusalem on June 12 for his support of Israel, particularly in light of the fact that the United Nations and numerous other nations have denounced Israel's conduct in Gaza.

When it comes to world leaders, Milei is one of the biggest backers of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's right-wing administration. Israel is becoming increasingly isolated as a result of its invasion and bombardment of Gaza in retaliation for the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023. Despite having been reared as a Roman Catholic, Milei has become more interested in Judaism and has even stated that she plans to convert.

What are the main goals of Milei's $1M Israel-Latin America diplomatic initiative?

To strengthen diplomatic relations between Israel and several key Latin American countries, initially focusing on Uruguay, Panama, and Costa Rica, with plans to expand to Brazil, Colombia, Chile, and possibly El Salvador by 2026.

To replicate the success of the Abraham Accords by fostering diplomatic, economic, and cultural collaboration between Israel and Latin American nations.

To motivate Latin American leaders to support Israel and counter rising antisemitism and terror ideologies that threaten shared values and liberties.
