Rallies are set nationwide to protest the federal immigration agency’s actions following a Minneapolis woman’s fatal shooting by an ICE agent.
The phrase "ICE, Out for Good" refers to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, which is facing increasing criticism for its implementation of President DonaldTrump's crackdown on illegal immigration. According to organizers, over 1,000 events were scheduled under this banner.
The phrase also alludes to Renee Good, the driver who was shot and killed by an ICE agent on Wednesday in the Midwestern US city of Minneapolis.
Strong feelings have been aroused by her passing both within and beyond of this Democratic stronghold. Around the nation, particularly in the areas of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, and Los Angeles, protests are scheduled.
The "No Kings" movement, a network of left-wing groups that organized nationwide protests against Trump last year, is intensifying calls for protest.
In an effort to portray Good as a "domestic terrorist," the Trump administration has maintained that the agent who shot and killed her was defending himself. Local authorities vehemently disagree, claiming that video of the killing demonstrates that Good's car was turning away from the agent and did not threaten him.
The cop who fired the deadly bullets is shown chatting with Good as he approaches and circles her car in cell phone footage that appears to have been captured by him. She responds,
"I'm not mad at you."
Before Good tries to drive off, another agent can be heard telling her to get out of the car after he passes in front of it, and then gunfire is heard.
Despite the fact that the footage does not show the police opening fire or the time the automobile moved away, the White House maintained that it supported the officer's claim of self-defense.
On Friday night, hundreds of protesters, armed with musical instruments, loudspeakers, and whistles, assembled boisterously in front of Minneapolis hotels thought to house ICE officials.
Mayor Jacob Frey stated during a press conference on Saturday that twenty-nine individuals had been arrested overnight as police responded to protests.
One police officer was hurt during the protest response, according to Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara.
"When the FBI, when the federal agencies, say they won't share evidence with the local authorities, the public can't trust that it's going to be a true, transparent investigation,"
Patrick
O'Shaughnessy, a 43-year-old unemployed resident interviewed by AFP on Friday.
Good was the fourth person murdered by federal immigration officers since the start of the Trump administration's deportation strategy, according to The Trace, a media source that focuses on gun violence.
