Hunter Biden claims the Trump administration wants to
conceal damaging information in Epstein files, sparking controversy and debate.
In an interview with writer Tommy Christopher on Substack this week, Biden stated that he had "no insider information whatsoever" to back up his theory, but that he thought it was "silly" to believe the administration wasn't operating some sort of political cover.
President Trump has stated that the two ex-friends later stopped communicating and has vehemently denied any impropriety connected to Epstein.
“The simplest explanation in this instance seems to be, whether its about him or whether its people that he is protecting, is that they’re clearly not releasing what they’re not releasing to protect someone,”
Biden said when asked about the administration’s reticence to release more materials related to the late sex criminal and former Trump friend.
“All of his supporters have gone from calling it the biggest cover-up in the history of the world to a Democratic hoax!”
he added elsewhere in the interview.
Throughout the Trump administration, the story of Epstein, who passed away in prison in 2019 while awaiting a federal sex trafficking trial, has simmered.
Trump officials stated often during the campaign and later in the White House that they would release significant amounts of material pertaining to Epstein. Attorney General Pam Bondi even went so far as to state in February that Epstein's purported client list was "currently on my desk for review."
The DOJ has been accused by House Democrats of "continued disregard" for subpoenas pertaining to the investigation.
In addition to the sluggish release schedule, other anomalies in the government's handling of the Epstein controversy have drawn criticism, such as the sudden transfer of Epstein accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell to a low-security Texas jail just weeks after she was interrogated by a senior DOJ official.
Officials from Trump have defended how they handled the Epstein material.
Last month, FBI Director Kash Patel testified that officials were partially preventing the release of additional information due to court orders and a previous federal plea agreement between prosecutors and Epstein.
“I’m not going to break the law to satisfy your curiosity,”
Patel told lawmakers.
How have Democrats and Republicans responded to the withholding decision?
Democrats have explosively blamed the Trump administration's
decision to withhold backing and information related to civil programs
and examinations, including the Epstein lines and education backing. They
argue that the withholding is illegal, an abuse of power, and dangerous
to residents counting on programs like children's internal health, flood
tide protection, and education.
Several Popular legislators and governors have called for immediate release of finances and translucency. They have also introduced legislative measures at the state position to offset the civil withholding and hold the administration responsible.
Republicans have had a mixed response. Some Democratic lawmakers, including influential legislators, have expressed concern about the withholding and prompted the administration to release finances, though they frequently stop short of calling the action illegal.
