Donald Trump mocks Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation, calling her a “traitor” and claiming she quit because he refused to return her calls, escalating GOP tensions.

The president referred to her as Marjorie “Traitor” Brown in a lengthy Truth Social post early on Saturday morning, citing a prior tweet in which he claimed to be altering her last name because “Green grass turns Brown when it begins to ROT! He said she left Congress because she was afraid of a Trump-backed opponent in the primary.

Some in the MAGA movement are happy that the Georgia Republican, one of Trump's most well-known and contentious supporters, has decided to quit Congress, while others are wondering where the movement is at the moment.

Trump wrote:

“Marjorie “Traitor” Brown, because of PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!), has decided to call it “quits.” Her relationship with the WORST Republican Congressman in decades, Tom Massie of Kentucky, also known as Rand Paul Jr. because he votes against the Republican Party (and really good legislation!), did not help her. For some reason, primarily that I refused to return her never ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD.”

In an abrupt change of tone, the president added:

“Nevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country! President DJT.”

Earlier, ABC News Senior Political Correspondent Rachel Scott said that she had a phone conversation with Trump late on Friday night regarding Greene's resignation.

Greene and Trump have recently argued over a number of matters, chief among them being Greene's demand for the release of the last government documents pertaining to the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. After Republicans led by Greene and Thomas Massie revolted against GOP leadership, the president, who had been fighting for months to prevent the papers from being published, agreed to comply, calling the requests a "Democrat hoax."

Despite being close with Epstein in the 1990s and early 2000s, Trump has maintained that he was unaware of the financier's wrongdoings. Regarding the Epstein case, Trump has not been charged with any misconduct.

The news of Greene's departure has both thrilled and alarmed various MAGA movement factions.

Greene will be "tremendously" missed, according to Massie, a Republican from Kentucky who spearheaded the bipartisan drive to release the Epstein papers alongside her.

Influential presidential supporter Laura Loomer, a right-wing activist, chastised Greene for leaving before the midterms.

Right-wing pundit Evan Kilgore posted a picture of MAGA members on X, including Loomer, Attorney General Pam Bondi, Sen. Ted Cruz, commentator Ben Shapiro, and FBI director Kash Patel. He wrote,

"If this is 'MAGA' now..."

Then I don't want anything to do with it. I'm leaving.

In her reaction to the revelation, conspiracy theorist and conservative pundit Candace Owens harshly denounced Trump.

Other detractors drew attention to the peculiar contrast between Greene's resignation and Trump's unexpectedly cordial meeting with Zohran Mamdani, the incoming mayor of New York City, whom he and other conservatives had earlier denounced as a "communist" and a "Islamist."

“MTG turns on Trump and resigns. Mamdani and Trump are new best friends. I am so confused,”

Larry Sabato, political analyst and Director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics and a Trump critic, wrote on X.

Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of the liberal news site MeidasTouch Network, said on X,

“So the new version of MAGA is that Marjorie Taylor Greene is a traitor, Rand Paul is a RINO, and Zohran Mamdani is great. Got it.”

What are the likely effects of Greene's resignation on the Georgia seat?

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s abdication is likely to spark a special election in her northwest Georgia congressional quarter, which is a solidly conservative Democratic seat. Georgia Governor Brian Kemp will be needed to set a date for this special election within 10 days of Greene’s departure.

The timing of the special election before the party primaries for the coming full term in 2026 could produce a politically charged atmosphere as campaigners shoulder for position. While the seat will probably remain Democratic, Greene’s departure introduces query in the original GOP dynamics and could impact broader party cohesion in Georgia.

The abdication also signals political shifts in the quarter and the state GOP, reflecting Greene’s break from Trump and growing review of his programs. This development potentially opens the door for a less divisive or more moderate Democratic seeker to crop , though Greene’s sympathizers.
